Ah, Sonic's then-greatest arch-rival, Mario. What was so amusing about an Italian plumber hopping on top of Goombas? Why did it capture our hearts the way it did? Speculations?

Well, I would blame it on the Mushrooms, but I don't think many people eat wild mushrooms.

lol, I dont think so either. But still, I guess Mario caught on because it had catchy music and a char that stood out. And thats how Sonic caught on as well, I guess, especially since at the time of the 16-bit wars Sonic was besting Mario in like every category...shame Sega died
